The Newton Firemen's Association was organized on July 8, 1930. In 1949 the Association joined the International Association of Fire Fighters and assigned Local 863. From the 1960's to 1980 the Association parted ways from the IAFF. On May 21, 1980 the Newton Fire Fighters Association re-joined the IAFF and assigned Local 2759. In 2003 the Local was reassigned it's original number Local 863. Today, Local 863 is made up of 181 men and women who are on the front line protecting the City of Newton Massachusetts.
